Is my hard drive going bad?

Sometimes there are no warning signs that your hard drive is going bad, but for those lucky few that do get a warning, they need to know what those signs are.

Some simple signs that may mean that your hard drive is going bad are clicking, clunking, whining (as if a fan was going bad), and grinding noises. If at any time you hear these sounds coming from your computer, do not take any chances, immediately shut down your computer properly:

Start > Shutdown > Turn Off.

Once your computer has been shut down properly, call ETC to get it in for a checkup. There may also be error messages that you have been receiving that could be a warning sign that your hard drive is going bad, take note of the error messages that you receive and call ETC for assistance.

If you continue to use the computer under these circumstances, you could lose all of your data on your hard drive. Sometimes, but not always, some issues with your hard drive can be prevented by simply checking your hard drive for errors. Most of the operating systems have the option to check hard drives for errors by the following method:

My Computer > Right click on the C: drive > Click Properties > Click the Tools tab > Under Error-Checking, Click Check Now.

Iliamo.com, the "Tri-State's Online Marketplace," offers free classifieds to individuals and free help wanted ads to businesses.  And that's just the beginning.
