Choosing the right keywords and phrases for your search engine optimization (SEO) program is critical to its success. The right keywords drive targeted traffic to your website - prospects that are ready to buy.
By following the simple methods listed below, you will be able to determine the right mix of keywords and phrases that will generate targeted prospects to your website. Good search terms are ones that are related to the products that you sell or the services that you provide
* Select keywords that represent your company's "bread and butter." What products and service lines are the most profitable, have the strongest sales, and continue to show good market demand.
* Look at alternative products and services that people tend to buy that you don't offer. Often, these keywords generate good prospects and typically have less competition than your primary keywords and phrases. For example, use a keyword or phrase for a product that you may not have, but that you do have substitutes for. It may turn out that your product is not what they had in mind, but is an alternative to what they are looking for.
* The most common mistake is using a keyword that is too broad. The keyword binoculars will result in a huge return of results. However, if this product is one of your bestsellers, then adding the particular brand or any popular specification to the phrase will result in a web user finding that product on your site much easier.
