- Have You Heard?
It
seems like it is getting harder and harder to find people who have not
yet heard of the Linux operating system. Even though you have heard of
it, you may not know exactly what it is. In simple terms, it's an operating
system that has similar functions and abilities to the system you are
using now. Even though they are similar in nature, there are some differences
between Linux and other operating systems, and one of those is the license
that governs it use: the GPL. In most cases, when you purchase your computer
preloaded with an operating system or install the operating system your
self, you are allowed to use it on one computer only. Linux, on the other
hand, has a license that allows you to install it on as many computers
as you see fit. For instance, you can install it on your home systems,
work systems, your laptop and it's perfectly legal. It allows for greater
flexibility and freedom.
For anyone
with high speed Internet access, you can usually download a distribution
free of charge. Yes, that's right, free of charge. The GPL makes it possible.
This does not preclude anyone from selling a prepackaged version that
comes with manuals and technical support, but it does allow you to acquire
it if you would like to try it out. If you have the skill to go without
technical support, use it as your primary system.
We here at

E-Commerce Solutions
Well,
it's still a major hurdle for smaller businesses to jump, but e-commerce
is fairly simply to enable with ETC's help.
E-commerce
is a simple 22 step process. That's not quite true, ETC provides a turnkey
solution to get you up and running as quickly as possible.
First, ETC
works with the open source community to provide a state of the
industry shopping cart complete with best sellers list, newsletter capabilities,
sales tax computation, integration with USPS, UPS and FedEx for national
or international shipping. The cart also offers order history, tell a
friend, different currency and language options and much more. We'll install
and customize the cart to your specifications.
Second, people
need a way to pay for your goods and services. One simple method is to
allow check or money order. A better way is to also offer Paypal to your
customers. Lastly, the cart can work with many automatic
card processors - this allows for the quickest and easiest payment for
your customer, but also results in monthly fees and transaction charges.
Lastly, depending
upon the payment method you choose, you may need what is called a secure
certificate. The certificate guards your site and encrypts the data entered
by the user.
ETC can wrap
it all up in a nice "to go" box and have your store online in
weeks. We can assist with setting up your payment processing, train you
on how to manage your online store and help 'tell the people' you're out
